Job Responsibilities

  • Assist in sustainment of an integrated safety and occupational health program, which shall comply with all the safety and occupational health requirements, regulations, and directives to include hazardous materials.
  • Assist with the, review, analyze and submit all accidents, incidents, and injuries to assigned personnel (military, DA civilians (DACs) and contractor employees), equipment and facilities in accordance with regulatory requirements IAW NETCOM Reg 385-1, AR 385-10, AR 385-40, and AR 735-5. 
  • Perform safety surveys/reviews of work areas, facilities, equipment and systems and to identify and correct safety and health hazards.  The Contractor shall provide surveys/reviews and recommendations for corrections to safety professionals (160th Signal Brigade and NETCOM) with a final copy submitted to the COR. 
  • Maintain reports and records on accidents, safety reviews/surveys, and any internal or external inspections, audits, and investigations in accordance with applicable regulations. Provide this information upon request to the Government.
  • Perform reviews or assessments of fire protection and fire prevention for facilities, equipment and personnel Provide review or assessments to safety professionals (160th and NETCOM) with a final copy submitted to the COR.
  • Coordinate and support functional safety councils at appropriate organizational levels.
  • Disseminate safety information within various organizational elements received from HQ NETCOM Safety Office, other command safety offices and other sources.
  • Facilitate the integration of the risk management process within appropriate organizational element activities.
  • Coordinate with other staff elements to ensure appropriate safety requirements incorporated into unit Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), programs, projects or procurement actions.  Provide a copy of either an assessment or recommendations to safety professionals (160th or NETCOM) with a final copy submitted to the COR.
  • Conduct required safety training for all assigned personnel and assess its effectiveness.  Conduct refresher training for Additional Duty Safety Officers (ADSO) to ensure ADSOs stay compliant with US Army standards. Document all training and retain records for review upon request by the Government.
  • Support emergency preparedness and contingency planning for force protection.
  • Monitor a medical surveillance program, to include training in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), first aid and emergency response.
  • Develop methods, for Government review and approval, to encourage assigned personnel reports of hazardous conditions or close calls and analyze for recommendations to abate hazard.
  • Serve as the technical representative for hazardous material, environmental considerations and maintenance of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
  • Prepare procedures Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) compliance as required for safety professional (160th and NETCOM) review, with a final copy submitted to the COR.
  • Monitor and analyze trends of occupational injuries and illness, workplace, facility and equipment review results.  Provide assessment report and recommendations to reduce potential trends causes to the COR and safety professionals (160th and NETCOM).
  • Coordinate and consult with NETCOM Safety Office on safety and occupational health matters.
  • Prepare and deliver briefs regrading safety issues during Brigade meetings as required (i.e. staff meetings, syncs, huddles, etc.).


Minimum Qualifications

  • Appropriate Safety, Occupational Health and Environmental (SOHE) compliance training with a minimum of five (5) years safety management experience.
  • Knowledgeable of Federal laws, regulations, policies, and procedures relative to SOHE particularly as they apply to communications facilities and systems.
  • Administering evaluating and reviewing overall safety and occupational health program elements.
  • Developing safety and occupational health standards, regulations, practices, or procedures to eliminate or control potential hazards
  • Reporting and investigation accidents and incidents
  • Designing or modifying workplaces, facilities, processes, products or other systems to control or eliminate hazards.
  • Reviewing technical procedures, schematics, engineering drawings plans, and inspection and audit reports and providing comments.
  • Physically capable of performing required safety tasks in assigned areas or facilities.
  • Planning and conducting required safety and occupational health training.
