Job Responsibilities

Trace Systems is looking for a bright self-motivated Senior Network Engineer to join a growing Enterprise Service Engineering team to support high end routing and switching products. This role demands high standards for engineering quality, and a deep passion for customer success. You will be part of a fast paced team where open communications, empowerment, innovation, teamwork and customer success are the foundations of the team. This is a Senior Network Engineer position that will be working with the core architecture/engineering/implementation team of bleeding edge technologies for the DoD space. This person is responsible for the implementation, and test of new network technologies. These advanced projects use technology with Cisco/Brocade Switching/Routing equipment, F5 Load balancing, Wireless, and VPN technologies.
Daily Responsibilities to Include:

  • Analyze requirements and deliver high performance networks using the latest technologies and innovations in a timely manner;
  • Understand client requirements and translate them into engineering requirements;
  • Write functional and design specification documents and drive sign-off. Interface with Configuration Management, Systems architects, and engineers from several disciplines to help drive customer deliverable and systems design, but also as the technology and clients’ needs change, so will the evolution of the system;
  • Architect, design, develop, test, or troubleshoot network features and functions.  This will be needed throughout not only the first iteration, but throughout the lifecycle of the system;
  • Interact cross functionally on matters that require coordination across organization lines;
  • Participate in full cycle development;
  • Support customer issues;
  • Provide mentorship to junior network engineers in the areas of network foundational knowledge;
  • Travel to each of the customer sites for both manual and automated surveys in preparation of installation.  This will require autonomy with the clients network and enterprise services to analyze and evaluate the components and postures of the existing networks;
  • Perform integration and testing of networks;
  • Assists in designing, and implements and maintains various networks such as LAN, WAN and voice systems in accordance with specified requirements. Prepares data or voice network diagrams and drawings to document and assist in communicating current operation status of networks;
  • Performs data or voice network configurations and configuration changes of various voice or data equipment such as routers, switches, intelligent hubs, multi-function switches, end offices, signaling transfer points, PBX, voice mail, call management systems, etc. to enhance performance;
  • Troubleshoot and resolved network access issues with workstations, servers, and switches.
  • Coordinate changes with the Change Manager via a forward schedule of change calendar.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Secret security clearance required with the ability to obtain a TS/SCI clearance;
  • Must be willing to travel during each implementation phase up to 50%; and average of 25% throughout the project lifecycle;
  • Must hold an active US passport;
  • Experience with DoD/Military/Agency networks including by not limited to CENTRIXS;
  • Required skills include switching, routing, bridges, BGP, OSFP, GRE, IPSec, VPNs. Our network shop consists of Brocade switching, Access layer Cisco, and Cisco for Encryption VPN technologies;
  • Supported work within a virtualized environment, preferably VMware vCenter 5.5, but will accept 5.1 experience.  Experience with some form of SDN; NSX or Cisco highly sought after;
  • Following manufacture’s installation, and the ability to lift, rack mount, power up, and provide network connectivity for system and networking hardware and maintain physical and virtual infrastructure composed of Windows | Linux workstations, Windows 2008 R2 | 2012 servers, Cisco ASR1000x | Catalyst 2750/2950 | VDX Brocade switches, Cisco 7206 | 6509 routers, ASA 5000, network cabling, and peripheral equipment;
  • Minimum 8+ years of Layer 2 or Layer 3 forwarding SW engineering (development and  sustaining) experience;
  • Ability to read/decipher computer code and various scripts (bash, Perl, python) required;
  • Must have Windows Server experience 2008R2/2012R2 - Administration is a plus;
  • Implementation and maintaining of AAA authentication services.
  • Maintain configuration item (CI) records for all hardware and software with rack elevations, power requirements, and connectivity diagrams utilizing SharePoint lists, libraries and web pages;
  • Familiar with Network Monitoring tools (i.e. System Center 2012, SolarWinds, etc.).
  • Experience with the Configuration Process

  • Bachelor's Degree engineering, computer science, management information systems, or related field preferred and 8+ years of related experience. Additional years’ experience may be used in lieu of a degree
