Job Responsibilities

  • The Sr. IP WAN Network Engineer SME is primarily responsible for architecting and designing tactical and enterprise communications networks in support of contracts and task orders for DoD requirements.
  • The Sr. IP WAN Network Engineer SME must possess cross-discipline skills in Command, Control, Communications, and Computer Systems and Systems Engineering methodologies such as DoDAF, INCOSE Standards and generally accepted industry best practices.
  • The Sr. IP WAN Network Engineer SME will be a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in either Networking, Virtualization/Data Storage, and Systems Architecture (Microsoft), and have high level knowledge of VOIP, Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI), Satellite Transport and Application Delivery Networking (ADN).
  • Has demonstrated past experience with complex IT and networking systems encompassing data, voice, video, wireless distribution and VDI.
  • Produces/reviews substantive and/or complex technical documentation reflecting detailed knowledge of technical areas. 
  • Documentation subjects shall include but not limited to systems design, system architecture, feasibility studies, and system specifications. 
  • Interfaces with Government management personnel.  Reports in writing and orally to Contractor management and Government representatives.
  • The Sr. IP WAN Network Engineer SME will engineer, design and configure and test complex network systems for deployment to remote locations primarily using satellite transport.
  • The engineer will lead and establish the configuration baseline and guide and instruct junior technicians in equipment and device configuration, test and implementation.
  • A wide variety of communications systems with a satellite communications focus will be designed, integrated and fielded, therefore, the Network Systems Engineer must be able to adapt to changing requirements, manage multiple technical tasks, interface with vendors and suppliers, and also provide detailed input to the technical proposal team.
  • Design, plan and support for large-scale network security engineering projects through operations, performance, testing, manufacturing, training and support. Provide specifications and recommendations for network architecture.
  • Conduct testing of network design.
  • Ability to design and implement network configuration on CISCO UCS chassis/hosts, ability to  architect, design, implement and troubleshoot  virtualized networking and networking implementation on virtualized servers, troubleshooting through the application stack for network performance, understanding of bonded interfaces and high availability network architectural design and implementation
  • Deployment of multiple technologies. VoIP telephony, access layer switching, core level switching, firewalls, IPS, and routers.
  • Building and maintaining an Enterprise WAN Private MPLS network.
  • Supports logical transition to operations of augmented network designs
  • Supporting Data Center technologies and operations
  • Applies communication, analytic and problem-solving skills to identify, communicate and resolve issues.
  • Evaluates current network systems and architectures.
  • Works on complex problems where analysis of situation requires in-depth evaluation of various factors.
  • Conducts open-systems architecture assessments.
  • Assist and advises customer with technical design support to network acquisition specification, design, proof-of-concept prototyping, development and evaluation of management information and decision support systems.
  • Maintains current knowledge of relevant hardware and software applications as assigned
  • Participates in special projects as required

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be a US Citizen in possession of a valid U.S. Passport
  • Technical Presentation Skills
  • Eight (8+) years of applicable experience in roles of increasing leadership responsibility, with recent and demonstrated experience in IT and/or Engineering
  • Understanding of industry standard system architecture and security
  • Expert in TCP/IP and hands-on experience with routing protocols
  • Expertise with virtualization and troubleshooting as well as one or more of the following: OSPF, redundant protocols, resilient network design, VLAN's, IPsec/VPN's, NetFlow, packet capture technologies.
  • Experience in the design and deployment of large, high availability complex networks.
  • Expert-level troubleshooting and debugging skills for network systems and their architectures.
  • Solid understanding of network testing methodologies
  • Must be able to work collaboratively across time zones, and physical locations
  • Ability to work in a team environment with other technical members and other disciplines to administer and support the overall program.
  • Must be able to travel internationally.
  • Must be a US Citizen.

Desired Qualifications

  • MS Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Telecommunications, or Information Systems or related technical discipline.
  • Secret security clearance, or have held one in the past that was not revoked for cause
  • Ten plus (15+) years of applicable experience in roles of increasing leadership responsibility, with recent and demonstrated experience in Engineering
  • Experience supporting International Customers
  • Experience working internationally
  • Network and Security related CISCO certifications
  • Demonstrated experience with National Carrier level networks
  • Experience with one or more of the following: MPLS, OSPF and Nexus switch fabric
  • Experience with Solarwinds network management suite of tools
  • Experience with Cisco Nexus switching and Cisco ASA or Sourcefire firewalls
  • Experience with deploying Cisco Call Manager and its associated features.
  • Experience with Risk and Opportunity management
  • Experience with systems architecture and design
  • Experience with process development and deployment
  • Experience managing technology strategy/roadmap.
  • Ability to provide written reports and verbal presentations to team members and to the customer

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Networking; Master's Degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science or Information Technology highly desired.
