Job Responsibilities

The Systems Engineer is primarily responsible for integration, implementation and sustainment support for a variety of satellite and network based projects. The Systems Engineer must possess cross-discipline skills in Command, Control, Communications, and Computer Systems and Systems Engineering methodologies such as DoDAF, INCOSE Standards and generally accepted industry best practices. The Systems Engineer will be skilled in a variety of technologies germane to satellite networks and specifically TDMA modem platforms and technically support communications systems through integration, implementation, fielding and sustainment. A wide variety of communications systems with a satellite communications focus will be designed, integrated and fielded, therefore, the Systems Engineer must be able to adapt to changing requirements, manage multiple technical tasks, interface with vendors and suppliers, and also provide detailed input to the technical proposal team, as well as interface with the end users. Duties will include:

  • Review request for proposals (RFP) and advise Program Management and Executive Management on possible solutions
  • Perform risk analysis, trade studies and costs analysis associated with technical solutions and provide recommendations
  • Interface with vendors and suppliers to develop technical solutions and cost models, understand new technologies and the implementation of those solutions and technologies
  • Design and engineering of wide area satellite-based networks using various modem platforms (SCPC, TDMA, FDMA)
  • Serve as the primary engineering resource for iDirect Hub operations
  • Integrate, implement and sustainment satellite-based networks and equipment
  • Strategic and tactical satellite communications systems design, development, integration and implementation
  • Provide operations and sustainment guidance to field technicians on systems ranging from VSATs to larger earth stations with complex RF and baseband signal chains
  • Technical solution development for a wide variety of communications systems that include SATCOM, Microwave, Terrestrial/Copper, Fiber Optic, WiFi, power and ancillary equipment
  • Prepare detailed white papers, reports and recommendations to customer as well participate in technical evaluation boards, integrated product teams (IPT) and technical briefings
  • Provide higher tier support to global network operations centers supporting satellite based networks
  • Perform other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum ten (10) years’ demonstrated theoretical and practical hands-on engineering in a fast-paced, Government contracting environment.
  • Minimum ten (10) years’ experience in conducting large scale satellite and tactical communications systems design, systems integration, testing and validation, implementation and sustainment
  • Minimum ten (10) years’ experience with iDirect hub operations and maintenance including all components of the iDirect hub system: software (iMonitor, iBuilder) routers, switches, servers, line cards and hub chassis.
  • 7 years of experience with large satellite earth terminals including RF/IF subsystems, baseband systems and ancillary equipment
  • 7 years of experience with fixed and deployable commercial and tactical VSATs including RF/IF subsystems and electronics, baseband systems, ancillary equipment and peripheral devices
  • 7 years of experience with satellite communications networks design and implementation
  • 5 years of experience with preparing technical documents and standard operating procedures
  • Experience with Military and commercial satellite constellations and ground station equipment
  • Experience with multiple transmission systems to include microwave, troposcatter, terrestrial/copper, fiber optic
  • Experience with IP Networking theory, concepts, hardware, and software
  • Experience with VoIP telephony design and implementation
  • Experience with systems architecture development, functional analysis, and systems interoperability analysis for complex communications systems
  • Excellent problem solving skills and the ability to adapt to differing technical environments as required
  • Candidate needs to have strong technical, analytical and critical thinking / reasoning skills
  • Candidate shall have an understanding of Mil-Stds and certifications such as ARSTRAT/JITC testing
  • Candidate needs to have a strong work ethic and strong leadership skills with solid communication, interpersonal management and relationship building skills being a must
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications to include Microsoft Project, Visio and Excel
  • iDirect Certification Required: IOM and AIOM
  • Must be a US Citizen

Desired Qualifications

MS Systems Engineering, Telecommunications, or Information Systems or related technical discipline.

  • Ability to develop pricing strategies relative to communications systems and services
  • Ability to advise business development staff and executive management on new technologies, provide competitive analyses, and recommendations
  • Ability to work independently managing cost analysis and task order schedules

Certifications desired but not required:

    • Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP)
    • Professional Engineer (PE)
    • Project Management Professional (PMP)
    • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
    • iDirect Certification: QoS Boot Camp and Remote Operators Course

Education

  • BS Engineering: Electrical, Satellite Communications, Telecommunications Systems or related field; or equivalent education and experience

Security Clearance

  • Secret clearance preferred.  Candidate must be clearable upon hire.
