Job Responsibilities:

Trace Systems is recruiting for a Systems Engineer (Automation) Subject Matter Expert to join our team in Tampa, FL.

Responsibilities include the following:

  • Provide system administration and engineering support focusing on the design, implementation, testing, and maintenance of lab services.
    Design, install, provision, configure, optimize, tune performance, integrate, and administer various solution technologies in a lab environment.
  • Understand, decompose and implement test plan, automation, and validation procedures based on stated product features and skillsets
  • Provide architecture and design level input to the agile team that integrates, orchestrate and facilitate ideas and maintain momentum across a diverse technical skillset
  • Help engineer solutions that are technically sound and within the constructs of the DOD environment
  • Be part of an engineering team building DOD systems using advanced NSX/ESXi networking functionalities such as virtual or distributed switches, network emulation devices, network overlay technologies, and NIC offload capabilities
  • Support complex and diverse network platforms/topologies within the engineering team
  • Will be responsible for the design, integration, operation, and management of complex enterprise networks, linking a variety of platforms, operating systems, network topologies, and network protocols.
  • Collaborate with vendors, the Government, carriers, and technical staff on network implementation, optimization and ongoing management
  • Lead technical teams that are integrating new technology into the existing operational environment
  • Advise senior government staff on industry best practices and provide policy recommendations to implement those practices
  • Work in a dynamic/agile development environment and be adaptable to changing requirements
  • Be resourceful, curious, and driven. Push the envelope in adopting new technologies, best design practices to ensure DOD has the best possible systems. Outside the box thinking.
  • Work in a collaborated environment to achieve original and anticipated features and functionality of programs to be developed
  • Follow life-cycle oriented processes and procedures
  • History of balancing competing priorities with the ability to adapt to the changing needs of the business while meeting a deadline
  • Work with business stakeholders and dev leads to prepare appropriate testing approaches, test plans, and test cases
  • Analyze, discuss and clarify test requirements with government, product, and development team members
  • Standup and configuration of test environments/sandboxes
  • Hands-on development of tests and testing suites
  • Manage test environments and setup/maintain test datasets
  • Configure and maintain test management suites using TestRail or similar
  • Evaluate where and how to increase/improve automation test coverage
  • Structure and conduct user acceptance testing with business stakeholders
  • Take part in product enhancement, feature design and requirements discussions (i.e., represent the voice of the customer)
  • Work with Lead Architect to scope features and prioritize roadmap
  • Work with the multiple technology teams to provide expertise in automation using configuration management tools such as Ansible/vRA or other automation suites
  • Comply with all applicable security and IA policies and directives
  • The Systems Engineer (Lab Manager) position (Microsoft Windows focus) is responsible for the management network and lab environment consisting of workstations, servers, routers, switches, firewalls, security devices, and communications devices.
  • This position will be responsible for managing Microsoft Windows servers operating in a virtual environment including packaging, deployment scripting and testing, shell scripting, and tier 3 technical issue resolution.
  • This includes verifying system security and Information Assurance (IA) posture and Security Technical Implementation Guidance (STIG) compliance of systems used in the lab and for the project in a complex environment with multiple enclaves.
  • The position also supports the deployment of virtual Microsoft Windows desktops through VMware Horizon technology.
  • Additional responsibilities could include special projects and participation in operating system security and strategy development.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Position requires a minium of seven (7) years of direct experience in the last fifteen year
  • Current DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification is required
  • Position requires an active, in-scope US Government issued Secret clearance 

  • Due to the nature of the work and contract requirements, US Citizenship is required. 


  • Bachelor's degree in a related discipline (e.g. Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Network Engineering, Math), experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
