Overview:

Job Title: Telecommunications Specialist/SATCOM Planner

Location: Brussels, Belgium

Job Responsibilities:

The Telecommunications Specialist/SATCOM Planner will provide day-to-day operation and maintenance support for various strategic SATCOM equipment fielded. This include on the spot training. The position also can include be the SATCOM Planner for strategic systems.

  • Perform network design and evaluation, circuit planning, and network operations support to ensure the availability of a network.
  • Function as a key support to Army Communications Staff organizations tasked to manage the network.
  • Provide critical RF and IP network engineering knowledge of all connectivity into and out of a theater, to include, reach back connectivity to Regional Hub Nodes and redistribution of services (RF, IP, and Fiber) within the theater.
  • Provide in theater capabilities that are required to ensure that not only Voice over the SIPR (VOSIP), but all service connectivity is maintained.
  • Provide technical support to troubleshoot and resolve network outages.
  • Provide quality assurance of installation to terminals and oversee all testing for validation of terminal for operations.
  • Provide oversight of the satellite transmission plans, bandwidth usage and optimization, and IP network configurations as necessary to ensure the best possible service to the end customer.
  • Provide other key facets of on-site technical support to include conducting systems testing (e.g. Noise Figure Measurements, Phase Noise), technical guidance, network setup with routers, switches, and IP accelerators, Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), VoIP switched infrastructure, Call Manager configuration, system troubleshooting, establishing efficient procedures to resolve trouble tickets, and coordinating the deployment of software release and equipment training. Tasks may also include installation, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of the RF/satellite, IP network, and fiber distribution systems.
  • Posess excellent verbal and communication skills. 
  • Travel CONUS/OCONUS to support missions up to 10%.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Active, in-scope US Government issued Secret clearance (Interim Secret Clearance is acceptable)

  • Due to the nature of the work and contract requirements, US Citizenship is required.

  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience in support of installations, repair, troubleshooting or maintenance of communications electronic systems or equipment.
  • A minimum of two (2) years experience operating in a tactical environment operating/maintaining antenna controllers, SSPA, LNA/LNB, up and down converters, Fiber optic/Coax/Ethernet Cable, Frequency Division Multiple Access (FDMA) and Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) modems (satellite modems).
  • Must have experience and skill with commercial and military satellite acquisition procedures and commercial TDMA/DAMA modems required.

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred, OR an Associates degree plus seven (7) years of recent specialized experience, OR eleven (11) total years of recent specialized experience.
